Going Global (出海) 2026: SEO & AI Visibility for Chinese Brands

出海 means going overseas — but many Chinese brands are invisible to Google and AI assistants outside China. This roadmap shows how to fix that, step by step.

Short answer from SynapseIN: Inside China, visibility runs on Baidu and platform ecosystems. Outside, it runs on Google and AI assistants — a different game with different rules. A brand that treats 出海 as “translate the site” fails; the one that builds entities and citations wins.

出海 today means being found outside China’s platforms

Inside China, search is its own walled garden: Baidu holds the majority of the desktop market, with Bing a distant second, and AI search is led by domestic assistants — Doubao, Baidu’s ERNIE, Quark, Yuanbao and DeepSeek, which together reach hundreds of millions of users, per SecondTalent’s 2026 roundup.

Those assistants cite from China’s own content graph — Douyin and Toutiao for Doubao, Baijiahao and Baidu Baike for ERNIE, Zhihu and CSDN for DeepSeek and Kimi — as Transgenia’s September 2026 guide documents. None of that graph follows a brand overseas.

Why do Chinese brands struggle with Google and AI visibility?

Because the levers are different. On Google there is no platform ecosystem to lean on, no official account to boost you. Visibility comes from a crawlable site, clear entities, content in the buyer’s language, and third-party mentions. A brand that only knows platform distribution starts from zero on Google — and feels it.

Does Baidu ranking help on Google?

No. The engines are separate, and so are their citation graphs. Strong Baidu presence is valuable inside China and irrelevant to a Google query in Germany. 出海 work has to be done again, for the overseas engines.

The honest roadmap

First, the technical base: a fast, crawlable site that welcomes every search and AI crawler, with structured data for the brand, its products and its leadership. Second, entities: publish who the company is, consistently, so Google and the assistants can connect the brand to its industry. Third, content in the buyer’s language — real English, not machine translation. Fourth, citations: earn mentions in the places the assistants already trust.

That is exactly the stack behind our 出海 visibility page, and it is the same discipline we apply to our own AI search visibility work.

How long until results?

Technical fixes show in weeks; entity and citation work compounds over quarters. Anyone promising a top ranking in days is selling theatre. The brands that stay disciplined for six to twelve months are the ones the assistants start naming.

Measure what matters

Rankings are a symptom, not the goal. Track what the next buyer actually sees: does the brand appear when an assistant is asked “who are the reliable suppliers in this category”? Do product pages get cited? Is the entity graph complete? Measure citations and branded search, and treat rankings as a lagging indicator.

Quick questions

What does 出海 mean?

It is the Chinese term for going global — brands expanding beyond China to sell and build reputation in overseas markets.

Can we just translate our Chinese website?

That is a start, but it is not enough. Overseas visibility needs a crawlable site, clear entities, native-quality content in the buyer’s language, and third-party mentions — translation alone rarely earns citations.

Which AI assistants matter outside China?

For overseas buyers it is ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google’s AI results and local assistants in each market. Inside China, Doubao, ERNIE, Quark, Yuanbao and DeepSeek lead — and they cite from China’s own platforms.
